Plea to relieve amicus curiae from illegal sand mining case

A miscellaneous petition has been filed in the Madras High Court for a direction to discharge advocate V Suresh as amicus curiae in the alleged multi-crore beach sand mining case.
The petitioner Stephen David, General Manager, Trans World Garnet India Pvt. Ltd filed the plea recently.
The petitioner alleged that the amicus curiae had earlier appeared on behalf of a henchman of a rival firm in the case.
Besides he was also the editor of a Magazine- The PUCL Bulletin, published by the People Union for Civil Liberties, he submitted.
He alleged that motivated and genetically engineered articles had been published in the magazine about the mining activities in Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Kankyakumari districts of the state,and sought a direction to discharge Suresh as amicus curiae in the illegal beach sand mining case.
The case had earlier been taken up suo motu by the court and is pending adjudication.
