Official sources said here today that the Prime Minister, who is the Chairman of NDMA, has accepted Reddy's resignation.
Reddy and five other members of NDMA have stepped down after the NDA government asked them to quit their posts. All those who have quit had been appointed by the previous UPA government.
Apart from Reddy, the members who have resigned from NDMA are former Director General of CISF KM Singh, former Civil Aviation Secretary KN Shrivastava, Maj Gen (Retd) JK Bansal, former Director of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre B Bhattacharjee and former Special Director of CBI K Salim Ali.
The NDMA Vice Chairman enjoys the rank of a Cabinet Minister while the eight other members enjoy the rank of a Union Minister of State.
Reddy was first appointed as an NDMA member in 2005 before being later promoted to the post of its Vice Chairman in December, 2010.
A few of the members were appointed in 2005 and received reappointment upon completion of their five-year tenure. Others were appointed in the last two to three years.
