Crediting common people for the close relations between India and Japan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today advocated greater people-to-people contact for expansion of ties.
He suggested formation of separate Parliamentary associations of young MPs and women besides proposing that Parliamentary delegations from Japan should visit cities other than Delhi when they travel to India.
These steps will help understanding each other better and push the ties further, the Prime Minister said while addressing a reception hosted by India-Japan Association and Japan-India Parliamentary Friendship League.
"What India-Japan relations are today is not only because of governments but also because of contribution by you people," he told the gathering.
At the function, Modi noted that a 93-year-old man in Japan remembers details about Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Modi said he has asked Indian Ambassador Deepa Wadhwa to depute a highly professional video team to be with him for a month and interview him.
Earlier, Modi called on Japanese Emperor Akihito and met leaders of various political parties.
