PM condoles death of former IAF chief

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today condoled the demise of former Air Chief and Governor O P Mehra, saying he was a "distinguished patriot" who will always be remembered for his contribution to the country.
"Am pained on passing away of a brave & distinguished patriot, Shri OP Mehra. He will always be remembered for his contribution to India," Modi tweeted.
"Shri OP Mehra spent years in service of the nation, first in the Air Force & then through sports administration & as Governor of states," he added.
"My thoughts are with the family & all those whose lives Shri OP Mehra touched. May his soul rest in peace," the Prime Minister said.
Mehra, 96, passed away here yesterday and was cremated today.
He served as Chief of Indian Air force from 1973 to 1976 and had also served as the Governor of Maharashtra (1980-82) and Rajasthan (1985-87).
Air Chief Marshal Mehra was also honoured with a Padma Vibhushan in 1977 for his service to the Indian Air Force.
