Prime Minister Narendra Modi today congratulated Jammu and Kashmir cricket team for their historic win over 40-times Ranji champions Mumbai in a league match.
Addressing the nation through his 'Mann Ki Baat' programme earlier in the day, Modi congratulated the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team's victory in Mumbai.
"Jammu and Kashmir Mumbai cricket team defeated Mumbai team. I do not see it in context of winning and losing. I see this event as the other," he said.
"Since a long time all the playing grounds in Jammu and Kashmir were full of water due to the floods. The state is facing difficulties but despite that the team spirit and the will to reach heights with which the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team has won is outstanding," the Prime Minister said.
"Unlike the circumstances, the crisis that they faced, they have shown that the targets can be achieved. It is shown by the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
"I felt happy and proud after listening to the news and I congratulate them for their win," he added.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and former Union Minister and Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) Dr Farooq Abdullah also congratulates J&K team for Ranji triumph over Mumbai.
The state cricket team had reached the quarter-finals of Ranji Trophy last season. J&K also had a successful run in the recent one-day matches defeating Delhi, Haryana and services teams.
