On the 67th anniversary of Hyderabad State's merger with the Union of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tonight paid tributes to those who sacrificed their lives for it and particularly highlighted the "exemplary" role played by Sardar Patel.
"I salute all those who sacrificed their lives for India's unity during the period of the merger of Hyderabad State into India," he tweeted.
"No mention of Hyderabad State's merger into India is complete without remembering exemplary role played by Sardar Patel during those times," he added.
It was on this day in 1948 that Hyderabad State merged with the Union of India.
