PM Modi a 'habitual liar', says Cong on Vadra controversy

Calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi a "habitual liar", the Congress today accused him of trying to "mislead" the people of Haryana and the Election Commission by alleging violations of model code of conduct in the land deal issue involving Robert Vadra.
Expressing regret for using such words, Congress spokesperson Shakeel Ahmed said that at times, wrong statements are given in politics.
"But when the Prime Minister of a country becomes a habitual liar, it should be condemned," Ahmed said.
Referring to a newspaper report that Congress government in Haryana has officially legitimised the land deal between Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Vadra and DLF, Ahmed said there was no violation of code of conduct.

"This newspaper mentioned a letter sent on July 16 which says that mutation in valid. Model code of conduct came into force on September 12 and our Prime Minister says what happened before July 16 is in violation of model code of conduct and Election Commission should pay attention. Such lies are not befitting to a Prime Minister of a country," he said.
Reading out a paragraph from what Supreme Court had said in relation to a PIL field in the matter, the AICC General Secretary in charge of Haryana, wondered about "coincidence" of a newspaper carrying a report, on the day when Modi visits the state, and Prime Minister taking it up strongly in his election speech.

He accused the Prime Minister of trying to "mislead" the EC and said, "I am sure that neither the Prime Minister nor BJP has sent any matter to the Election Commission over this".
Told by a journalist that EC has asked for a report from the Returning Officer in the state, he said, "I am happy that facts will emerge and I hope that the EC takes action against him (Modi) for trying to mislead it".
