Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit to Gujarat on July 20 has been postponed due to heavy rains in several parts of the state, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said today.
As per the schedule announced earlier by the state government, the prime minister was supposed to visit Valsad, Junagadh and Gandhinagar on Friday to take part in various programmes.
The prime minister has decided to postpone his visit so that the relief and rescue work in Valsad and Junagadh districts, which are badly affected by incessant rains, does not get disturbed, said Rupani while talking to reporters in Veraval town in Gir Somnath district.
"Since Valsad and Junagadh have been battered by heavy rains, the entire administration is busy in the relief and rescue work. Thus, the PM has decided to postpone his July 20 visit so that the administration does not get engaged in the preparations of his events," he said.
Rupani said the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) is in touch with the state government regarding the situation arising out of the continuous rains in Gujarat.
"The PM has expressed his concern and decided to postpone the visit," the CM added.

As per the schedule released by the authorities earlier, Modi was supposed to begin his one-day visit by dedicating 2 lakh houses built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna at a function in Dharampur town in Valsad in south Gujarat.
He was also scheduled to reach Junagadh town in Saurashtra region to inaugurate a newly-built civil hospital.
On July 20 evening, Modi was supposed to visit Gandhinagar to attend the convocation ceremony of the Gujarat Forensic Science University.
