MP government has decided that Modi will be felicitated by farmers for launching the crop insurance scheme during his proposed visit to the state on February 18.
"When the state, on one hand is facing financial crisis, lacking sufficient funds to pay its contribution towards the crop insurance scheme and having no money to compensate farmers... In such a situation why crores are being spent on PM's felicitation?," MP Congress president Arun Yadav said in a press conference.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive at Sherpur village in neighbouring Sehore district on February 18 to take part in a programme on crop insurance scheme which was launched recently by the Centre.
Criticising the district administration for razing down crops in the fields ahead of the visit, Congress demanded a compensation of Rs 90,000 per acre for farmers whose crops were damaged.
Yadav alleged the administration has coerced the farmers to write that they were razing their crops on their own and will not demand any compensation for it.
