Army officials in Uri sector today handed over a man from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), who had inadvertently crossed the Line of Control two days ago, to Pakistan Army officials.
"Keeping up the high standards, ethos and traditions, the Indian Army repatriated a resident of Amra Sawan in PoK who had inadvertently crossed over into the Indian territory on the intervening night of 10/11 June 2015," Udhampur-based Defence Spokesman Colonel S D Goswami told PTI.
He said the man was handed over by the unit based at Uri frontier area to the Pakistan Army with a new set of clothes and sweets for the family.
Kashif Baig had inadvertently crossed over into the Indian territory on the intervening night of June 10 and 11.
He was apprehended by the troops and the Indian Army took the initiative and sent an urgent hot line message to the Pakistan side, the spokesman said.
He said the message was initiated to inform the Pakistan Army of the safety and well being of Baig along with a request for a Flag meeting so that the individual could be repatriated and united with his family at the earliest.
"The flag meeting was held at the Chakothi-Uri Crossing Point near Kaman Aman Setu, at 11.30 AM today and individual was handed over to representatives from Pakistan," he added.
