Amid ongoing debate on religion-based divide, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today said a polarisation between "growth and obstructionism" would not be a bad thing for the country as he took potshot at Congress for stalling the passage of GST Bill in Parliament.
If future politics in the country is centred around a "polarisation between growth and obstructionism", it would not be a bad thing, he said here.
"Obstructionists will be seen as villains in the public eye," he commented, addressing a meeting of businessmen convened by the city BJP.
Stating that GST has the potential to boost the GDP, Jaitley criticised the Opposition in general and Congress in particular for stalling the passage of the landmark taxation Bill in Parliament "without understanding its benefit".
Jaitley, who touched upon salient features of the domestic economy in the global context, said those who try to stall the road-map of development should know the aspirations of Indian society.
Later, asked to comment on the Supreme Court verdict declaring NJAC Act unconstitutional, Jaitley said he had not read the full judgement.
"I have strong views (on the issue) but I will express them after reading the judgement," said the lawyer-politician who is also a former Law Minister.
The National Judicial Appointments Commission (NJAC) Act, 2014, which replaced the 22-year-old collegium system of judges appointing judges, was held as "void" by a five-judge Constitution Bench yesterday.
