Claiming that Rayalaseema always got a raw deal under Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government, YSR Congress today alleged that the Pattiseema project would lead to the neglect of the Polavaram project, which is aimed at bringing water to the arid region.
Senior YSR Congress leader M V Mysoora Reddy said a Government Order issued to carry out work on the Pattiseema project makes no mention of waters to Rayalaseema region.
"This only shows that the TDP will continue its apathy towards Rayalaseema though the leaders are making tall claims," he said.
"Our fear is that the Polavaram project will be kept in cold storage if the Pattiseema project is taken up, since it has similar goals, but water cannot be taken to Rayalaseema as storage facilities have not been created.
"The Pattiseema project benefits contractors and water cannot be sent to the arid region due to lack of infrastructure", he told reporters here.
"Above all, the Government Order issued take up Pattiseema has no mention of waters to Rayalaseema while the Tribunal Award clearly mentions that upper riparian states of Maharashtra and Karnataka will get additional waters the moment the project gets the Central Water Commission (CWC) nod," he said.
"Our concern is about Polavaram since the project is designed to bring Godavari flood waters to Krishna delta and to Rayalaseema, but there is no such mention in the Pattiseema project and huge amounts of money would be wasted on a project which is redundant in nature," Reddy said.
