Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi told reporters here today that the Commission now based in Guwahati will have a forum each in upper Assam, north bank of river Brahmaputra and Barak Valley in south Assam for the convenience of people.
Stating the forums will be headed by a judge, he said, publicity will be given on the accountability initiative for public information and participation.
Though the Assam Police Accountability Commission is not empowered to take any punitive action after enquiry, its findings are binding, according to the provisions of the Commission.
The Commission is for probing allegations of serious misconduct, including death in police custody, molestation or rape, unauthorised detention or arrest, non-registration of FIR, forceful deprivation of a person's rightful ownership or possession of property, blackmail or extortion.
These complaints can be made by individuals or organisations, according to the ASPAC mandate.
