Police arrest cow smuggler after shoot-out in Bharatpur

An alleged cow smuggler was arrested after a shoot-out with police in Bharatpur district today while two others who were transporting bovines illegally managed to escape, the police claimed today.
"The smugglers fired six times at us and did not stop at the check post. We were able to puncture their truck tyre and arrested one of the three smugglers who were transporting 12 bovines illegally, after a long chase," SHO Kothwada Naresh Kumar told PTI.
According to police officials, after receiving a tip-off they had put up a check post near Dharamtal village.
They claimed that the smugglers did not stop at the check-post and fired at the police team which chased them.
One of the tyre of the truck which the alleged smugglers were driving burst after which they abandoned the vehicle and tried to flee, the police claimed.
Police officials said that they managed to nab one person identified as Irshaad from Haryana while two others managed to escape.

The accused in the pre-liminary interrogation revealed that they had purchased the cows from Bandikui and had to deliver the consignment to an agent in Haryana, police sources said.
Police have registered a case in the matter and further investigation is on.
The incident comes just days after a man - Pehlu Khan was assaulted by vigilantes on the suspicion of cow smuggling. Khan later died at a hospital in Alwar district of Rajasthan, leading to much outrage.
