Police have arrested two alleged autolifters who have nearly a 100 cases of auto theft registered in the national capital against them and recovered about 11 stolen two-wheelers.
Manohar Pradhan (39) and Sorokhaibam Chorijit Singh (25), natives of Manipur, were arrested yesterday following an input at a picket at Naraina Road, Pandav Nagar, DCP (Central) Mandeep Singh Randhawa said.
They were held with a stolen Scooty, he said.
The duo were part of a gang of auto-lifters who used to steal vehicles on demand and sell them in the north east. They were found involved in about 100 cases of vehicle thefts in the city.
Eleven stolen two-wheelers stolen have been recovered from them, said the officer.
They used to steal vehicles, prepare their fake registration papers and sent them to Deemapur and Guwahati.
The vehicles were registered afresh there by removing the unique identification numbers and stamping new engine and chasis numbers. The vehicles were then passed on to buyers as genuine ones, the officer added.
