Police at doorstep, murder accused hangs self

A 22-year-old man, facing charges of murder, attempt to murder and loot, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself when police reached his house to nab him in Barra area here, police said today.
The body of Gaurav Singh alias Gaurav Don was found hanging from the ceiling in his house yesterday, a police spokesperson said.
Acting on an information, a police team reached Gaurav's house, who had been on the run for some time, on Tuesday evening to nab him but he tried to escape, they said.
Having failed to move out, he locked himself in a room in his uncle's house, adjacent to his own.
Gaurav then threatened police that he would hang himself if they tried to enter the room following which the police team left, the spokesperson said, adding his family members informed police yesterday morning that since last evening he had not left the room.
A police team found him hanging from the ceiling when they broke the window and entered the room, they said.

The body has been sent for post-mortem, they said.
He has been previously booked for murder, attempt to murder, theft and loot, and under the Gangsters Act.
Saurav, Gaurav's brother, alleged that police used to harass his brother but the Circle Officer (CO) of Govindnagar denied the allegations. An investigation is on in the matter, the CO said.
