Police book 44 bovine smugglers in Samba, seize 34 vehicles

Police booked 44 bovine smugglers and seized 34 vehicles apart from freeing 322 bovines in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir this year.
"During the current year, 38 bovine smuggling cases were registered in District Samba in which 44 bovine smugglers were booked under law, 34 vehicles used in such smuggling were seized and 322 bovine animals were rescued", a police officer said.
All police officers were directed by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Samba to take stern action against bovine smugglers.
Today, police foiled a bovine smuggling bid by intercepted a vehicle carrying 8 bovine animals which were being illegally transported but on seeing the police Naka at Ghagwal, the driver of the said vehicle fled away leaving it on spot much before the Naka, he said.
Accordingly, the vehicle was seized and a case was registered at Police Station Ghagwal and investigation carried on, he said adding that the efforts are being made to on to nab the absconding accused driver.
