Police bust casino on GT Karnal Road, 51 arrested

Fifty-one persons, including five women, were arrested after a casino was busted at a resort on the GT Karnal Road, police said here Friday.

On January 24, the Crime Branch raided the premises of Le Castle Micasa Resort and Motels at Palla Bakhtawar Pur Road near Shani Mandir, they said.

It was found that illegal gambling was being run in a big hall situated at the top floor of the resort.

Women were serving token/chips at the specially designed casino tables to play cards. Token/chips were being given against cash as well as on credit and a register was being maintained, said Rajiv Ranjan, additional commissioner of police (crime).

The 51 accused were arrested for gambling and the total stake money seized was Rs 5.42 lakh, Ranjan said.

"Liquor was being served illegally and women used to serve liquor and help guests in playing cards. The party would usually continue all night, he said.

The place also has hired dancers and DJ for entertainment of the gamblers, he said.

During investigation, it was found that the Gambling racket was being run for the last several months.

However, the venues were being changed regularly. The venue at Le Castle Micasa Resort was chosen for this particular day only, the officer said, adding the last time such gambling was organised by the accused persons was on the occasion of New Year at a farm house in Gannaur, Sonepat, Haryana.

Thirteen persons, including five women were the organisers.

The main organisers were identified as Mukesh Kumar, Sanjay Aggarwal, Devraj, Ajay Jain and Love Vasistha.

These were the people who picked the venues and called their group of gamblers to come and play cards, Ranjan said.

The organisers had specially hired Vashistha, a resident of Rohini to run the gambling den, police said, adding he had earlier worked with a famous casino in Goa and also used to arrange casino tours for Sri Lanka and Cyprus.

The owner of the resort Ashok Gupta had given it on lease to Ajay Jain and his partners for Rs 15.75 lakh per month.

Jain was arrested along with Surender Banger, the general manager of the resort, the officer added.
