Police bust gang of eight extortionists, four arrested

Police today claimed to have busted a gang of eight extortionists, including two women, who allegedly used to blackmail doctors.
The gang used to threaten various doctors by recording their conversation while putting forth a woman gang member asking for an abortion, they said.
Police nabbed four accused, including a woman member of the gang while remaining four including another woman are still at large.
SSP Mandeep Singh Sidhu said that a case was registered responding to the complaint of a Bhawanigarh-based doctor Sahil Garg that extortionists approached him for abortion of one of their members on April 1 and next day they approached him with CD of their conversation for display of sting operation on a TV channel claiming some of them as reporters.
The deal was settled for Rs 3.80 lakh, out of which an amount of Rs 2 lakh was paid and remaining amount of Rs 1.80 lakh was paid next day.
The doctor on April 3 reported the matter to police.

On investigations, police apprehended four accused and recovered an amount of Rs one lakh, one laptop, six hidden cameras, one digital camera, seven mobile phones, four identity cards of a TV channel, a car used by accused and eight sim cards.
The arrested were identified as Daljit Singh, Brahmprit Singh, Ranbir Singh and Rajwinder Kaur residents of Patiala.
The absconding accused includes Gurdip Kaur, Ravi Kant, Amandip Singh and Devinder Singh also of Patiala.
The SSP said the accused during preliminary investigations confessed of having committed such offenses in Chandigarh, Kaithal, Ambala, Gobindgarh, Khanna, Nabha and Patiala.
