The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has busted a land-grabbing gang being operated from Tihar Jail and arrested two of its active members.
The leader of the gang, Sandeep Mental, is presently lodged in Tihar Jail in connection with a murder case in 2012 and was running his gang from there.
According to the police, Mental wanted to get a big plot, occupied by one Nafe Singh, vacated in Najafgarh area and he asked his gang members - Bijender (27), a resident of Sonipat and Pawan Maan (24), a resident of Najafgarh to get the work done.
Police said that on the night of December 13, the duo had opened indiscriminate fire at the houses located on the plot and on December 18, they also did the same as well.
"We got a secret information that Bijender and Pawan would come towards Dwarka on December 24. Acting on tip-off, police laid a trap and arrested both of them," joint commissioner (crime) Ravindra Yadav said.
During interrogation, it was revealed that they had fired at the houses to terrorise the occupants at the direction of Mental, lodged in Tihar Jail. Mental's brother Jagdip had also provided the logistic support - firearms and ammunition to them.

"Bijendra was earlier lodged in the Tihar Jail with Mental and he came out on bail on December 4 with the help of Mental who had arranged surety for him," said a senior police official.
The official also added that the plot in question was previously occupied by one Pradeep Banka and his brother Jaswant.
Police said that Mental had killed Banka in 2012 for taking over the plot and since he had been arrested and was lodged in jail, Banka's brother sold the plot to Nafe Singh.
