Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik has underlined the importance of imparting self-defence training on women and raising awareness on it.
Witnessing a self-defence display by more than 1,200 school girls at Khatu Shyam stadium in west Delhi's Hari Nagar yesterday, Patnaik used the term 'shashakti'.
The school girls were trained in self-defence techniques by Delhi Police.
In his address, Patnaik congratulated the participants and used the term 'shashakti' to highlight the importance of women learning self-defence techniques.
He also talked about taking the initiative to every nook and corner of the national capital.
More than 20,000 girls studying in various schools and colleges under the South-Western Range of Delhi Police have received training in self-defence in 2016, said DCP (west) Vijay Kumar.
The self-defence techniques primarily focus on an in-depth knowledge of the anatomy of the human body and are easy to learn, easy to teach and effective on-ground, he added.
The school girls displayed daring combat and tile-breaking techniques. The event was telecast live across the NCR through cable television.
