With the arrest of four persons of an EWS quota admission racket today, the Crime Branch has claimed a breakthrough in its two-year long investigation into allegations of irregularities in admissions on the seats meant for poor.
The seats under Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category were sold to rich admission seekers by the arrested module. They used to charge between Rs 3-5 lakh from the parents.
Admissions were given on forged documents including residence proof and income certificate, said Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime).
Data of such admissions from schools were sought and the EWS certificates were also verified from the concerned SDM offices.
"Many of the EWS certificates used in the admission process were found to be fake and forged in the probe," he said.
During the long process of data collection from schools and verification of EWS certificates from SDM offices the touts got alert and went underground, he said.
