Police have failed to make any headway in the alleged murder of 35-year-old Hindu leader Amit Sharma who was shot dead by two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants late last night near Durga Mata temple at civil lines here.
However, Deputy Commissioner of Police Bhupinder Singh Sidhu said the police is looking into the case from various angles.
It would be premature to call it an act of terrorism, he said, adding "but we are also considering that point seriously," he added.
Police was examining the footage of the CCTV cameras installed on the road where the killing took place, Sidhu said.
As per postmortem report, four bullets had pierced Sharma's body.
The postmortem was conducted under tight security at a civil hospital here, police said today.

Meanwhile, president Hindu Takhat Varun Mehta claimed that the incident was an "act of terrorism" in line with the alleged murders of senior RSS leader Jagdish Gagneja, Shiv Sena leader Durga Dass Gupta at Khanna, Namdhari leader Tari and Mata Chand Kaur, wife of late Namdhari sect chief Satguru Jagjeet Singh.
The government should read the writing on the wall and act swiftly before it is too late, he said.
These incidents, the Hindu Takhat president said, are a cruel reminders of similar incidents of the eighties, the hey days of terrorism in Punjab.
The Hindu organisations have given an ultimatum of one week to the police to arrest the culprits or face the "wrath of the public".
