Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik appoints 319 sentinels who will voluntarily help Delhi traffic personnel

Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik today formally launched the traffic sentinel scheme as part of the National Road Safety Week-2018 celebrations here.

On this occasion as many as 319 sentinels, who voluntarily offered their services, were appointed who would help the police in regulating and managing traffic, according to a statement.

The sentinels were given kits consisting of fluorescent jackets, caps and identity cards to be used by them while assisting traffic police during duty.

Patnaik launched the scheme at Dogra Hall Auditorium, IIT Hauz Khas here.

According to the traffic police, in addition, active users of traffic sentinel App who accumulated points on the basis of videos and photographs of traffic violations sent by them to Delhi traffic police were also felicitated today.

"The first and second award winners namely Yogesh Dhawan and SC Kakkar were awarded with Hero motorcycle and Hero scooter respectively sponsored by Hero Moto Corp.

"The Third prize winners were given cash reward of Rs 15,000 each sponsored by IGL and the fourth prize winners were given cash reward of Rs 10,000," the statement stated.

The police commissioner congratulated the traffic sentinels and exhorted them to work in close coordination with Delhi Traffic Police.

He hoped that the scheme would extend further with more citizens chip in and make impact on regulation and managing of traffic.
