Police constable dies playing football

A police constable who was playing in the final match of a football tournament at Berhampur Stadium here died while playing today.
The football tournament was organised by the Ganjam district athletic association (GDAA)
The deceased was identified as Arun Kanta Sahu (47), a native of Goshainuagon and working at medical college outpost.
He fell on the ground just barely 8 minutes before end of the match. He was immediately taken into MKCG Medical College and Hospital here where doctors declared him brought dead, said Kameswara Rao, secretary of GDAA.
Exact cause of death would be known only after post-morterm, police said.
DIG (Southern range) Amitabh Thakur and several others were present as the guests of the final match of the tournament. They immediately rushed to the hospital. After the death of a player, we stopped the match and observed silence for two minutes, Rao said.
The final match was held between Police team and Nataraj Sporting Club, Gate Bazar here. Police team was leading 1-0 in the match.
