A constable died and 16 other police officers sustained injuries early today when their bus overturned after colliding head-on with a truck on NH-31 in Bihar's Nawada district, the police said.
The bus, with 25 policemen on board, was on its way to Nawada town from Rajauli sub-division area around 1.30am when the truck hit it near Chhapra Mor, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Upendra Prasad said.
The truck driver, however, managed to flee the spot, he said.
The injured officers were rushed to the Nawada Sadar Hospital, where constable Aakash Kumar (25) succumbed to his injuries.
The other policemen, who were injured in the accident, have been referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), the SDPO said, adding that the condition of another constable, Mukesh Kumar, has been stated to be serious.
"An investigation has been initiated into the incident and the police are making all efforts to trace the truck driver," Prasad asserted.
