With a view to providing security to civilians and defence establishments, a convergence meeting was held between Telangana police and military officials here today.

The meeting discussed external and internal security, and reviewed the preparedness for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, a release said.

State Director General of Police M Mahendar Reddy and Telangana and Andhra sub-area general officer commanding Major General N Srinivas Rao chaired the meeting.

The Major General highlighted the present security environment and recent developments in the country with increased terrorist activities as well as involvement of anti-social elements, it said.

He expressed concern over Secunderabad Cantonment, Golconda, Mehdipatnam and Bowenpally areas being open and porous cantonments with large civilian population around them and added that major roads and highways close to the Cantonment had further compounded the problem of security.

Such meetings between the armed forces and police were vital to develop a rapport between officials and get prepared to face any contingency, the release quoted the DGP as saying.
