Madras High Court today directed police to probe the complaint of a Scheduled Caste woman employee at the Quaid-e-Milleth College for Men here, who alleged that she was sexually harassed by the Principal and Office Superintendent.
Justice P Devadoss directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police, St Thomas Mount and Inspector of All Women Police Station at Madipakkam that if any cognisable offence was made out of her complaint, action shall be taken as per law and a competent police officer probe the matter, if a case was registered.
Selvi, a staff at College at Medavakkam, in her plea alleged that she was insulted by the Principal and the Office Superintendent and also been subjected to sexual harassment at the work place.
Chennai Police Commissioner had forwarded her complaint for investigation to Assistant Commissioner of Police at St Thomas Mount.
She alleged that the Inspector of All Women Police Station at Madipakkam, to whom the investigation was handed over, had not registered an FIR even after a cognisable offence under the SC/ST Act and Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act was made out.
The petitioner submitted that she belonged to Scheduled Caste community and prayed for a direction to authorities to register an FIR on her complaint.
