Participating in the 15th passing out parade of the police dogs organised by the Intelligence Security Wing today at the Integrated Intelligence Training Academy (IITA) in Moinabad here, Reddy said it was a matter of pride for the state that police dogs from other states were also being trained at the academy, which was launched in 2004.
"The government has launched various welfare measures for policemen, which include sanctioning of Rs 350 crore for modernisation of force, including vehicles, allocation of ten per cent quota for policemen in the 2-BHK homes and sanctioning of special allowance for police personnel working in Traffic, Security, CID and Intelligence wings," a release quoted him as saying.
Telangana DGP Anurag Sharma said that besides the police dogs from Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh, those from CRPF, BSF and the Octopus (an elite anti-terror police in Telangana) wings were also being trained at the IITA.
IG Intelligence Shivdhar Reddy said what began in 2004 with training of ten dogs in the academy had transformed into a full-fledged security academy spread over 78 acres at Moinabad in 2006, where now 364 dogs were trained so far in various aspects of security and detection to track terrorists, VIP security, smoke out bombs, explosives and drugs.
The passing out parade by the dogs besides the stunts and other feats like attack on criminals, tracking drugs, explosives etc enthralled the audience, the release added.
