All police stations in Gujarat will now have to hoist a state police flag atop their buildings and officials must greet telephone callers with the patriotic salutation of 'Jai Hind', as per a new directive.
The decision comes following a suggestion to this effect made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the recently-held conference of top police officials in Kutch.
The directive has been issued to all Commissioners of Police (CPs), Superintendents of Police (SPs) and Range IGs today by state DGP P C Thakur.
"Yes, we have asked all senior officers to follow this guideline of hoisting the police flag at police stations and say 'Jay Hind' first whenever the police station officer (PSO) talks to a citizen over phone," Thakur said.
In the communique, it is mentioned that this decision is taken after the Prime Minister gave his suggestions in this regard during All India DGPs and IGs conference at Dhordo in Kutch, held between December 18 to 20.
"As directed by the PM at the DGPs conference, all police stations should henceforth hoist the flag of Gujarat Police atop their police station buildings," the directive said, adding, proper care should be taken to maintain dignity of the flag.
At present, police flag is hoisted at the offices of the DGP, commissioners of police, Range IGs, district SPs and at police headquarters. However, with the new directive, the flag will be mounted atop all police stations in the state.
"Further, the PSOs of these police stations and police chowkies should start the call with 'Jay Hind' which is compulsory," said the communique, adding that senior officials should brief their junior staff about the same.
