The police today foiled an immolation bid by a woman near the private residence of Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani here, a police official said.
Hetal Makawana, a native of Padadhari town in Rajkot, was detained just before she could pour petrol on herself and set her ablaze, the official said.
She wanted to take the extreme step to protest against the alleged "police inaction" into her complaint that her husband had been assaulted at the behest of a local BJP leader and former MLA Ramesh Rupapara.
Her husband was injured in a clash some days back, the official said.
Hetal wanted inclusion of Rupapara's name in an FIR filed in connection with the incident, the official said.
She had threatened a couple of days back to set herself ablaze in front of Rupani's private residence here.
