Police inspector arrested by ACB for accepting Rs 50,000 bribe

A police officer attached to the district rural police, who allegedly demanded and accepted a bribe from a complainant for favouring an accused was arrested by the the ACB here today, the ACB said tonight.
ACB's Superintendent of Police Sandeep Karnik said that the complainant's cousin brother was arrested by the Murbad police in connection with a criminal case and was in police custody for some days.
Allegedly, Assistant Police Inspector Rajendra T Hulawale (45) demanded Rs 50,000 from the complainant, whose brother was still in the custody, for not extending his police custody and favouring him in the case.
"After the police official demanded a bribe, the complainant went to the ACB Thane unit, which laid a trap at the Kalamboli branch of a restaurant and arrested him while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000. He will be produced in a local court on Friday," the ACB said.
An offence under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the official at the Kalamboli police station in Navi Mumbai, ACB officials said.
