The protesting members of Madiga Dandora Samiti (MDS) wanted to enter the new secretariat-cum-assembly complex, the second in the state for petitioning Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on implementation of the A J Sadashiva Report on internal reservation among people belonging to the SC.

Karnataka Home Minister R Ashok said in the assembly that three organisations, including MDS, had assembled outside Suvarna Vidhana Soudha to demand immediate implementation of the Sadashiva Report.

Trouble started when some in the group started pelting stones and Belgaum SP Sandeep Patil sustained head injuries, Ashok said.

Following the incident, police lobbed tear gas shells at the violent group to disperse them, Ashok said adding "The situation has been brought under control."

The traffic came to a halt for some time before it was cleared by the large posse of police.

Patil said 25 people have been arrested and four policemen and 21 agitators have sustained injuries.
