Police nabs injured man after exchange of fire, cop hurt

A 32-year-old man, allegedly having criminal cases pending against him, was arrested after he sufered bullet injuries on left leg during an encounter with police at Tamana on Berhampur-Chikiti Road, 15 km from here, today.
A police man also suffered minor wounds as the accused fired three rounds on being challenged by a police team prompting the cops to retaliate, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Berhampur town) Santanu Das said.
One country-made pistol, three live ammunition and a motorcycle were recovered from the accused Subash Nayak, alias Andla, Das said.
SP (Berhampur) in-charge Asish Singh said Nayak had at least 17 different criminal cases pending against him under various police stations in Ganjam district. The cases included attempt to murder, dacoity.
One of his accomplices escaped from the spot.
The accused has been admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here.
Patrolling has been intensified to nab his accomplice.
