A court here today sentenced a police officer to two years' rigorous imprisonment in a case of bribery.
Inspector Chatla Vijayakumar (47), then posted at Choppadandi, allegedly took Rs 40,000 from the complainant for his release on bail in April 2009 after a case of trespass was lodged against the complainant in connection with a land dispute.
Vijayakumar later demanded another Rs 20,000 for not initiating further proceedings against him, and threatened to seize his JCB machine if he didn't pay up, according to the prosecution.
After the complainant approached the Anti Corruption Bureau, the inspector was trapped while accepting the money in the Choppadandi police station.
Judge P Bhasker Rao today also imposed a fine of Rs. 10,000 on him.
