Police personnel, youth injured in attack by another man

A police official and a pedestrian sustained injuries in an alleged attack by a person who threatened the public with a sharp weapon here today, police said.
Appearing from a lane this afternoon, the person suddenly started brandishing the sharp sickle like object on the public moving around and created panic for some time on the Palakkad-Coimbatore main road in the city, they said.
A Special Sub-Inspector who was on a vehicle check, tried to stop him but sustained injuries as the youth attacked him. A passerby who tried to save the police official, also received injuries, police said.
However, some people in the vicinity chased and managed to overpower the man, who was later handed over to the police.

Police are investigating the reason behind the incident and whether the youth was intoxicated or mentally disturbed, they said.
