Police have started inquiring into Sikh militant leader Harminder Singh Mintoo's possible connections in Goa following media reports that after his escape from a Punjab jail, he wanted to come to the coastal state.
"We have not received any formal communication or information about Mintoo or his plans to come to Goa after his escape," Deputy Inspector General of Police Vimal Gupta told PTI today.
"We are trying to find out whether he had any links or contacts in Goa," he said, adding the police have initiated an inquiry merely on the basis of reports published in the media after Mintoo's arrest.
The 49-year-old leader of the Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) was freed from Nabha jail in Punjab by gunmen posing as policemen on Sunday.
He was tracked down and recaptured from the parking lot at Nizamuddin Railway Station in Delhi around 2 am yesterday, five hours before he was to board a train to eventually reach Goa from where he wanted to escape to Germany, police in Chandigarh had said.
Mintoo is accused in more than 10 terror cases, including an attack on Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim.
He was arrested in 2014 when he arrived at the Delhi airport from Thailand.
