"The Operation Goodwill was launched yesterday and will continue for 10 days. During the operation games will be organised, study kits will be distributed and other things will be taken up under the community policing," Superintendent of Police Kranti Kumar told reporters here today.

Unlike the previous "Operation Octopus" which had been launched in Saryu of the district to "clear off" Maoists, the latest operation is aimed at helping the villagers.

"We are also setting up two police pickets in these areas during the period," he said adding a talent search programme would also be taken up to tap budding sports persons.

"There is no dearth of talent in Latehar district. We will organise football and hockey to promote sports in the areas," Kumar said.

The "Operation Goodwill" comes months after "Operation Octopus" which according to the police had cleared off Maoists from once naxal-stronghold Saryu of the district earlier this year, enabling the administration to take up Saryu Action Plan that would develop the area.
