Police recover 21 stolen cars, arrest 2 persons

In one of the largest hauls, personnel from Moti Nagar police station in West Delhi have recovered 21 stolen luxury cars, including 13 Honda City, worth more than Rs 2 crore from two suspected auto-lifters and arrested them.
Ravi Tegi alias Karan (24) and Ravi (22) were arrested yesterday from near Ramesh Nagar Metro Station on Najafgarh Road. With the arrests, police claimed to have solved 30 cases of auto theft.
Keeping in view of the increasing incidents of auto thefts in the area, a special team was constituted to collect intelligence about the gang indulging in such type of crime.
"The team was checking vehicles at Ramesh Nagar Metro Station, Najafgarh Road yesterday when they noticed suspicious behaviour and movement of two youths sitting in a Honda City.
"During verification, the driver, Ravi, could not produce any document related to the vehicle. Later, the vehicle was found to be stolen from Bharat Nagar police station area," said Additional Commissioner of Police (West) Ranvir Singh.
On sustained interrogation, Karan disclosed that he was employed as a driver in Kirti Nagar where he was paid around Rs 9,000 to 10,000 per month. After working for 2-3 months, he was removed from service by his employer. Then he started driving cars on daily wages.
"He was very fond of going on drive with his girlfriends. In order to fulfil his needs, he started stealing cars by using old keys of Honda City. After stealing the car, he used to drive it till the fuel was exhausted after which he used to sell some of the accessories of the cars such as stepney, battery, stereo etc. To meet his expenses," the officer said.

"His associate, Ravi, was also working as a driver. Karan used to steal cars in parts of West Delhi. It has come to notice that he used to steal 2-3 cars in a single day and park them at secluded places such as Naraina Flyover, Punjabi Bagh, Paschim Vihar, Patel Nagar, Khyal etc," said Singh.
He used to target old Honda City cars as it was easy for him to steal with the old keys. He had committed all the theft in the span of two months only, he said.
On sustained interrogation, police have recovered a total of 21 cars and one motorcycle at his instance. These vehicles have been stolen from various parts of Delhi and worth more than Rs 2 crore, police said.
