Police reviews security plan for LS polls in Kashmir Valley

Police today reviewed security arrangements for candidates contesting the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls and polling booths in Kashmir Valley.
"In order to discuss and review the security and deployment arrangements for upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the Kashmir Province, Special Director General of Police K Rajendra Kumar chaired a meeting of senior police and paramilitary officers here," a police spokesman said.
Rajendra impressed upon the participants to strictly implement the action plan for the security of candidates and polling booths.
He said the security arrangements for polling booths should be put in place keeping in view the sensitiveness of the area.
"Besides maintaining law and order during the election campaigning, security of the candidates should be focused on priority so that people could participate freely in democratic process," he said.
Rajendra called for improving the coordination among the security forces to ensure free and fair elections.

He said joint meetings should be conducted regularly at different levels and the inputs shared so that timely action is taken to deal with any eventuality.
The Special DGP sought reports from range DIGs and para-military officers present in the meeting about security scenario in their respective areas.
He said joint efforts should be put in place to ensure peace and security at all places to thwart sinister designs of inimical elements.
Rajendra discussed deployment plan and logistic arrangements for the additional forces being deployed for election duty. He said besides the state police, additional companies of paramilitary forces are arriving for poll duty.
Earlier, the IGP Kashmir Zone A G Mir apprised the meeting about the steps taken for deployment of personnel in different constituencies.
He also briefed the meeting about the movement of forces from one constituency to another for their deployment.
