Police said the seizure followed a tip-off that coral reefs were being mined from the sea off Keezhakarai.
The coral reefs had been handed over to forest department officials, police said.
The Tamil Nadu government has prohibited quarrying of corals after considerable loss of reefs to the point of extinction.
