Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajinder Singh Sohal said during a routine checking near Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Polytechnic College here, police arrested a pedestrian Nirmal Singh, originally a resident of Madpur village and presently living in Indore (MP), and recovered six kg opium worth around Rs 6 lakh from him.
He said a case under various sections of NDPS Act was registered against him.
During interrogation, Nirmal Singh told the police that he and his family were living in Indore for last many years. He got opium from there to smuggle in various parts of Punjab.
