A lorry carrying the precious wood was found abandoned near the road-side in Nagari mandal of the district, sources said, adding that after verification, it was found that there were 106 logs weighing over 3,400 kg.
Nagari police has booked a case and seized the lorry with red sanders. Investigations are on to trace the smugglers.
One kilogram of red sanders fetches around Rs 5,000 in the international market and it grows mainly in the Seshachalam hill ranges spread across Kadapa, Chittoor and Kurnool districts in the Rayalaseema region as well as parts of Nellore district.
