Two persons were part of the gang that used tricks like hitting the car from back side, or puncturing the wheel with the help of a poker or throwing some engine oil on the bonnet and radiator that results in fumes rising from the engine, said DCP(West) Vijay Kumar.
In this way they used to get the occupants of the car outside and divert their attention. Sometimes, one or two members of the group would even start helping the victim to keep him busy.
"After commission of crime, they used to gather at a designated place for distribution of booty. In this case, they could not meet in the evening due to the incessant raids of police in JJ Colony, Madangir," he added.
On December 23, Rachit Gupta, who works as a manager in a jewellery shop in Dehradun, filed a complaint alleging that three gold bricks were stolen from him.

"He told police that he had come to Janakpuri to purchase three gold bricks of one kilogram each. While returning, he placed the bag containing the gold bricks on the rear seat in the Tata Indigo car hired by him for the to and fro journey to Uttarakhand," he said.
Two motorcycle-borne persons overtook their car and signaled them about leakage of engine oil or some problem in engine.
The driver parked the car and came out of the car to inspect the vehicle. Later, Rachit also stepped out since he started feeling irritation in his eyes.
"They saw some black oil traces on the front side of the car engine and fumes were coming out of it. After they sat in the car and were about to move ahead, they found that the bag containing gold bricks missing. A PCR call was made and investigation was taken up," he said.
"Some members of these gangs were apprehended and interrogated in depth. During the process, a specific input was received that two persons from a particular gang are planning to dispose off the gold bricks.
"A trap was laid and two persons, Somu (22) and the juvenile were apprehended and a motorcycle was recovered," said the officer.
Their interrogation revealed that the kingpin of the gang is from Madangir and he is still at large.
