He was speaking at the attestation-cum-passing-out parade of 947 recruit constables of 25th Best Recruit Constables batch at the Police Training School, around 80 km from here.
The parade was reviewed by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
"Bullet-proof vehicles, jackets and 'Patkas' (headgear) would be provided to all police stations in the valley shortly," the DGP said.
"With your (Mufti)intervention, the Union Home Ministry has also agreed to provide safe housing to police personnel. A proposal was sent yesterday and we are hopeful of getting the nod soon so that our officers and personnel are provided with safe housing," Vaid said.

The DGP said that increasing the selection-grade constable quota from 25 to 50 per cent by the state government has opened avenues of promotion for the jawans.
Congratulating the recruit constables, the DGP said that this was a very qualified and talented batch, which had been trained in arms handling, crime investigation, counter- insurgency, search operations among others.
He said that among the 947 recruit constables, a majority of them got directed recruitment on merit basis and 147 special police officers became constables.
Vaid said that he had directed district police chiefs and station house officers to constitute police-community partnership groups.
He announced that a health insurance policy was forwarded to the government for its sanction, while MoUs were signed with the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board for 15 per cent rebate for police personnel and their families at its hospital and the Jammu and Kashmir Bank to treat personnel as preferred customers and provided Rs 20 lakh loan without any collateral.
