The special tam left for Southern Atolls where the former President is currently on a trip to bring him back for the next hearing scheduled for Sunday.

Nasheed is to be tried for the "unconstitutional" arrest and subsequent detention of Chief Criminal Judge Abdulla Mohamed during his tenure as President. His arrest had led to protests and finally the resignation of Nasheed in February.

The first hearing of the case against Nasheed had been scheduled for Monday but he had skipped the hearing and went on a tour to the south of Maldives for his Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) campaign.

Hulhumale Court rescheduled the hearing for Sunday and issued an order to produce Nasheed for the the scheduled hearing.

Last week, a court had ordered the former President to remain in capital island Male until the case against him is concluded.

The case could see him jailed or banished to a remote island and barred from future elections.

Meanwhile, Nasheed has asked Maldivian National Defence Force to withdraw the security given to him, which is entitled to a president by the Contitution.
