Sikh hardliners were intercepted by police today as they tried to take out a march to the Akal Takht- the highest temporal seat of Sikhs here-- demanding removal of the chief priest.
They were protesting against the decision of Sikh clergy to grant pardon to Sirsa based Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in a blasphemy case, which was later withdrawn.
Policemen made a human chain to stop the march to the Golden Temple and the protesters dispersed. However, some of them later blocked traffic for few hours and raised pro-Khalistan slogans.
Sikh hardliner Ram Singh said that they were going to Akal Takht to protest against Jathedar Akal Takht and his colleagues as their decisions had "willfully lowered the dignity" of the body.
