Police to give security for withdrawing large cash from bank

In the wake of recent cases of loot of cash from people while carrying money from bank, city police today said that they will provide security to people withdrawing a large sum of cash from banks.
City police has decided to provide security to those who wants to withdraw a huge sum of cash from their bank accounts and require security to take it to home or any other destination, Deputy Commissioner of Police Sandip Diwan said today.
For the purpose, people will have to inform the police in advance and tell the bank and destination, he added.
In last four days, three cases of theft and loot were reported in the city to the tune of Rs nine lakh.
In the first incident Manoj Wadekar, a contractor, had withdrawn Rs 3 lakh from his bank account but was looted by two motorcycle borne youths wearing helmet and fled, police said.
In two other cases, a couple and a woman carrying Rs 3 lakh respectively were looted in a similar fashion, he said.
Cases have been filed in all the three cases and hunt has been launched to apprehend the looters, but so far none could be nabbed, Diwan said, adding, in the view of rising cases the decision has been taken.
