A policeman was attacked with a chopper allegedly by a man while he was being interrogated in connection with the kidnapping case of his wife in a village of this district's trans-Yamuna region.
Sub-inspector Ram Jiyavan Pal, in-charge of Lediyari outpost under Khiri police station area near here, was attacked by local resident Phoolchandra Kesarwani last night, according to Khiri SHO Rajesh Singh.
Pal was attacked when he had called Kesarwani to interrogate him in connection with a complaint registered by him that his wife had been kidnapped, though his neighbours claimed that the woman had eloped with her paramour, the SHO said.
Kesarwani, who appeared to be mentally unstable, attacked Pal in a fit of rage and was nabbed soon after the incident by a Homeguard jawan accompanying the sub-inspector, the SHO said.
Pal, who received grievous injuries, has been admitted to SRN hospital in the city and his condition is stated to be critical, the SHO added.
A case has been registered against Kesarwani under various sections of the Indian Penal Code including those relating to attempt to murder and preventing a government servant from discharging his duty.
