A police officer was today caught red-handed here while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a man, an official said.

"Madhav Nagar police station in-charge KP Mishra was today caught by Lokayukta police team while receiving a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a complainant inside the police station," Lokayukta Police inspector Prabhat Pandey informed.
According to the officer, Mishra had settled for bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant Anil Tiwari to force the witnesses to turn hostile in a case of illegal liquor seizure. Tiwari is accused in this case.
"The complainant had already paid an amount of Rs 40,000 to Mishra and it was the last instalment of the bribe, which Madhav Nagar police station in-charge was receiving when caught red-handed," he added.
Mishra was arrested and bribe money was seized from him. "A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against him," the Lokayukta police officer added.
According to Pandey, in July 2016, a team of Madhav Nagar police had seized illegal liquor from a dhaba (roadside eatery) and registered a case against Tiwari.
